Job Summary

The purpose of the Park Ranger position at Rockin' River Park is to assist in the operation of the park. Duties include, but are not limited to: custodial, interpretive visitor services, collecting entrance fees, managing gift shop sales with a point‑of‑sales/reservation system, completing administrative duties such as answering phones, compiling data, conducting research, working with volunteers and other groups, assisting with social media, coordinating special events, purchasing maintenance supplies, and conducting supply and gift shop inventories.

Job Duties
  • Visitor contact: tend visitor center, greet visitors, assign tasks to volunteers, collect visitor fees, gift shop sales, permit fees, distribute literature, answer phones, handle two‑way radio communication and data entry.
  • Custodial maintenance of grounds/facilities: daily cleaning of public restrooms, visitor center, and gift shop; stock restrooms with paper supplies; clean picnic tables; paint buildings and picnic tables; manage trash and recycling; perform landscaping and invasive species management; irrigate trees and shrubs; maintain demonstration garden.
  • Park security: patrol park to ensure visitor and property safety; educate violators, issue warnings, assist with first‑aid response, handle law‑enforcement communications, complete incident reports.
  • Maintenance and repairs: repair/replace irrigation lines, perform minor electrical repairs, maintain vehicles and tools, service air‑conditioning units, water heaters, office equipment.
  • Administration: maintain personal time sheets and hours, vehicle and equipment logs, inventory records, daily attendance and revenue records, revenue recaps, make deposits, maintain ledgers, process reimbursements, complete volunteer records.
  • Interpretation: provide interpretation to the public and at special events; lead guided hikes, conduct research, oversee garden activities and youth programming; liaise with local schools, promote special events and workshops.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge: basic preservation of historic buildings and structures, parks and recreation, construction, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, volunteer coordination, agency rules and regulations, hand and power tools, landscaping and gardening, irrigation installation and maintenance, First Aid and CPR, public safety practices, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Skills: interpersonal relationships, basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry, grounds maintenance, landscaping, operating and servicing automotive and small motors, effective public contact, written and oral communication, restroom maintenance, hand and power tools.
  • Abilities: manage visitor complaints and emergencies, enforce rules, communicate effectively, conduct resource management programs, work independently and as part of a team, work nights, weekends and holidays, operate park equipment and power tools safely, handle extreme heat, cross‑train at other parks, maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license.
