Salary Range: $19.05 - $26.07 per hour, plus $10 - $20 per hour in benefits.

ShiftMonday‑Friday, 6:00 am to 2:00 pm.
General Statement of DutiesRides on or follows behind a refuse truck, collects refuse and/or recyclables from property to property, and returns materials to the truck for disposal.
Distinguishing Features Of The ClassThis position requires heavy physical work. Employees must be in good physical condition. Repetitive work is performed independently, with supervision needed for unusual problems. Duties must be performed efficiently.
Examples Of Work- Discovers household trash, yard waste, and recyclable materials and places containers properly.
- Assists in route development and strategy for efficient completion.
- Directs crew members when others are less experienced.
- Ensures safety of crew, driver, and traffic.
Skills And Abilities
- Physical ability to work outdoors in extreme and adverse conditions.
- Ability to carry out oral and written instructions with minimal detail.
- Aptitude for logistical coordination of services.
- Good communication skills and the ability to deal tactfully with citizens.
- General knowledge of city streets, neighborhoods, and landmarks.
- High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
Written exam dates:
June 23, 25, and 26. Physical test date:
June 30.
The written exam covers mechanical comprehension, following instructions, map reading, reading comprehension, safety, vocabulary, street signs, basic math, public relations, and related areas. The physical assessment requires: 40 stops in 10 minutes or less, alternating between two stations, lifting two 35‑lb cans and one 14‑lb bag with two hands at each stop. Pass/Fail.
Veteran BenefitsVeterans with applicable service receive additional credit of 20% or 15% of the total exam grade, as outlined by state regulations.
Drug Testing RequirementPosition is subject to a drug test. Eligibility is not final until a negative result is obtained.
