• High school diploma or equivalent
• Civil Service eligibility
• Physical ability to handle materials weighing up to 80 lbs.
• Ability to work without supervision

• Possess good public relation skills
• Possess knowledge of means, methods and materials used in performance of custodial work

• Keep buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat, safe and clean at all times
• Shovel, plow and salt walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as appropriate
• Dust and clean on a daily schedule
• Sweep and/or vacuum assigned area daily
• Cleans corridors and steps after school each day and during the day when their condition requires it
• Scrubs and disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily
• Keep waste baskets empty and clean
• Lower the United States Flag each school day
• Perform yard keeping chores such as grass cutting, weed removal, tree trimming and shrubs to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition
• Perform minor building repairs
• Report immediately to the Building Administrator any damage to school property
• Report major repairs needed promptly to the Building Administrator
• Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Building Administrator
• Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste
• Assume the responsibility for closing the building each school day and for ensuring all doors and windows are secured and lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off
• Cleans chalkboards at least once a week
• Climb ladder to make repairs, change lights, clean walls and windows
• Cleans door glass daily
• Keep custodian closets clean and orderly at all times
• Perform other duties as assigned
