Job Summary

The Plant Operations Manager provides operational, technical, and regulatory support to the Vice President and Director of Plant Operations while overseeing maintenance, life safety, emergency preparedness, vendor management, and facility operations across multiple Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs). This role ensures all buildings, grounds, systems, and equipment are maintained in a safe, efficient, compliant, and resident-centered manner.

The Plant Operations Manager serves as a key resource to facility leadership and Maintenance Directors by providing guidance, technical expertise, project oversight, and operational support to promote regulatory compliance, minimize disruptions, and protect organizational assets. Responsibilities include oversight of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical systems, carpentry, general building maintenance, construction projects, preventive maintenance programs, and life safety compliance.

This position requires strong knowledge of NFPA, CMS, OSHA, and state licensure regulations, along with the ability to foster a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service.

Qualifications
  • Must be available for 24/7 on-call support
  • Minimum 5 years of healthcare maintenance leadership experience required (SNF, LTC, hospital, or healthcare facility strongly preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare facility operations, Life Safety Code, CMS requirements, OSHA and NFPA standards, and survey readiness
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, budgets, vendors, teams, and work order systems
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and customer-service skills
  • HVAC skills preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings
  • Experience with emergency preparedness management
  • Craftsmanship capabilities preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Ability to travel extensively with overnight stays
Essential Functions
  • Provide operational and technical support to the Vice President and Director of Plant Operations
  • Oversee maintenance operations, building systems, and life safety compliance across multiple SNFs
  • Ensure all buildings, grounds, and equipment are maintained safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards
  • Support emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response efforts
  • Coordinate vendor management, contractor oversight, and capital improvement projects
  • Assist with construction, renovation, and mechanical system upgrades
  • Conduct facility inspections, identify deficiencies, and ensure timely corrective actions
  • Support preventive maintenance programs and ensure adherence to departmental standards
  • Provide guidance and technical support to Maintenance Directors and facility leadership
  • Interpret and apply NFPA, CMS, OSHA, and state licensure regulations
  • Maintain documentation related to maintenance, life safety, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and customer service
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Physical & Travel Requirements
  • Ability to walk facilities, climb ladders, inspect equipment, access rooftops/mechanical rooms, and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to respond to facility emergencies outside normal business hours
  • Frequent travel between assigned facilities (up to 75% travel); valid driver's license required
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English via phone, email, and in-person interactions
  • Ability to use a computer, phone, and related technology for extended periods
