This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position with Public Works located in Carson City, Nevada.
Under immediate supervision, performs standard building and facility maintenance, and minor repair duties in buildings, facilities and adjacent grounds; interacts with and provides standard information to the public.
Employees may choose between the following:
Employer-Paid PERS:$22.7003 - $31.7805 hourly / $47,216.52 - $66,103.44 annually
Employee/Employer-Paid PERS:$27.3854 - $38.3396 hourly / $56,961.58 - $79,746.42 annually

Examples of Duties
This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.
* Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and polishes floors; sweeps, vacuums, extracts and spot cleans carpeted areas.
* Dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork; dusts counters, window sills, window blinds and similar fixtures.
* Empties, cleans and lines waste receptacles and disposes of trash.
* Cleans doors, carpets, windows, walls, ceilings, window blinds and furniture; polishes metalwork.
* Performs set-up and dismantling of rooms for events.
* Secures facilities and activates alarms as required.
* Requisition s building maintenance supplies, materials and equipment; ensure proper supply of necessary material is available.
* Cleans and disinfects restrooms; restocks restroom supplies as necessary.
* Cleans lighting fixtures and replaces bulb/tube when required.
* Reports the need for maintenance or repair of facilities to the appropriate supervisor; corrects or reports any fire or safety hazards and places barriers in public areas.
* Maintains equipment, materials and supplies in proper condition.
* Observes safe working practices, including maintaining storage areas in a safe condition.
* Follows label instructions to mix and dilute cleansers, disinfectants and stripping agents to ensure proper strength for use.
* Answers questions and provides standard information to the public if working in a public facility.
* Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as a member of a work team.
* Keeps basic records of work performed, time sheets, etc.
* Drives a City motor vehicle to specified work sites.
* Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and City staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
Typical Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; AND one (1) year of general maintenance/custodial experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
* Valid Driver's License.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of:
* Proper cleaning methods and the safe usage of cleaning materials, disinfectants, custodial tools and equipment.
* Use and minor maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment.
* Safety practices and equipment related to the work.
* Basic shop mathematics.
* Basic record keeping practices.
* Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
* Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Skill in:
* Safely using hand tools and power equipment related to the work.
* Understanding and following written and oral instructions.
* Working without close supervision in standard work situations.
