Building Maintenance
This position is with the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space department. It is a part‑time position, not to exceed 1,039 hours per fiscal year (July 1 through June 30). Under general supervision, the incumbent performs a variety of custodial duties related to facility cleaning and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities- Work non‑traditional shift hours, including early morning, afternoon, evening, late night, or swing shift.
- Be available to work on call, evenings, and weekends.
- Move and arrange furniture and A/V equipment to set up rooms for meetings and special functions.
- Clean and sanitize hard floors, under bleachers, facility restrooms, auditorium floors, seats, windows, fixtures, mirrors and carpets. Empty trash and restock supplies.
- Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor machines, buffers and carpet extractors.
- Remove litter and debris from facility walkways and grounds.
- Supervise and secure the facility.
- Use standard office equipment, including a computer, during work; drive City vehicles to work sites, transport materials and assist other staff as required.
- Provide customer service and demonstrate courteous, cooperative behavior when interacting with contractors, the public and City staff.
Education and Experience
- High School education or GED.
- Professional cleaning experience helpful.
- Hospitality industry experience helpful.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Appropriate to Department (e.g., Crowd Manager Certification within 15 days of hire, CPR/First Aid within 6 months of hire, Mandated Reporting certification).
Knowledge of
- Safe work practices and regulations pertaining to the work.
- Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Basic arithmetic and application of ratios.
Skill in
- Safely using and maintaining hand and power tools.
- Understanding and following oral and written directions.
- Preparing basic records of work performed.
- Performing general maintenance work individually or as part of a crew, in various areas.
- Contributing effectively to team or work unit goals and objectives.
- Reading and communicating effectively in English.
Under general supervision; tasks are governed by specific work methods and a sequence of steps, with regular reviews to ensure compliance.
Physical Demands and Working EnvironmentRegularly required to stand, use hands and arms to reach, talk and hear. Frequently required to continuously move, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must lift up to 50 lb on a frequent basis and occasionally heavier loads with assistance. Frequently operates motorized equipment. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception. The work environment is public assembly/multipurpose;
extensive public contact; exposure to computer screens, amplified speech and music, large crowds and motorized equipment.
