Position: Custodian III
Location: Fremont Elementary School
Open To: Employees of Carson City School District and external applicants.

Salary & Benefits: $19.92 to $25.77 per hour (8 hours per day, 12 months per year) with benefits according to the classified negotiated agreement. Employer‑paid retirement, health and life insurance, sick leave benefits and personal leave. Per Administrative Regulation No. 311.1.
Responsibilities- Lead and participate in the work of a moderate to large size crew of custodians (3 to 6+) performing routine cleaning work in assigned areas.
- Execute routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and maintaining classrooms, offices, kitchens, halls, restrooms, grounds, and other school spaces.
- Operate and maintain snow removal equipment and other custodial tools; assist with emergency snow plowing and flood‑control as required.
- Serve on the Incident Command Team, remaining on stand‑by during inclement weather and other emergencies, and perform emergency support such as wildfire, flood‑watch, building repairs, and other unforeseen situations.
- Inspect work for quality, adjust schedules, and reassign tasks to ensure timely cleanup; maintain cleaning schedules and ensure staff compliance.
- Manage custodial supplies, place orders, inspect inventory, and report needed repairs to District maintenance staff.
- Assist and train new custodians, supervise student employees, check timecards, and facilitate safety precautions.
- Execute special custodial duties such as painting interior and exterior surfaces, setting up rooms for special events, and performing minor repairs on furniture.
- High school graduation or equivalent; completion of informal training in custodial services or a closely related field is preferred.
- Entry‑level experience performing general custodial duties or equivalent experience in the Carson City School District.
- Ability to use cleaning materials, disinfectants, equipment, and tools; estimate required supplies; maintain simple records.
- Knowledge of custodial work methods, materials, and equipment; safety precautions and procedures.
- Ability to operate a vehicle with legal and defensive driving practices; understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Good communication skills, including computer skills and ability to submit work and warehouse orders.
- Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug screen, physical examination, and lift test.
- Bilingual preferred (but not required).
- Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence and an original Social Security Card.

- Heavy lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds; frequent lifting of items up to 50 pounds.
- Use of chemicals and protective equipment such as goggles, gloves, and face shields.
- Frequent reaching, handling, repetitive fine‑motor activities, and talking and hearing requirements.
- Vision requirements for reading printed materials and monitoring devices.
- Work in varying weather conditions including cold, heat, rain, snow, and outdoor grounds.
- Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels and various chemical hazards.
As a member of the Incident Command Team, custodial employees must remain on stand‑by during any given day within the year in which inclement weather may affect the District. Duties may include emergency wildfire support, snow plowing, flood‑watch/flood‑control, building maintenance, and emergency repairs. Compensation is provided for all approved Incident Command Team activities.
