Overview
This position is for the Office of The Military (ADJUTANT GENERAL & NATIONAL GUARD) and is located in Carson City.
ResponsibilitiesCustodial Workers perform general cleaning services to State facilities, maintaining a safe, hygienic, and orderly work environment. Under general supervision, incumbents are responsible for cleaning offices, restrooms, showers, laundry rooms, classrooms, stairwells, elevators, and other designated areas according to prescribed schedules and procedures.
Duties include:
- Dust, mop, vacuum, shampoo carpets and floors; wash windows, doors, mirrors, walls, and fixtures; polish furniture.
- Operate powered equipment such as electric strippers, buffers, burnishers, power washers, vacuums, and other cleaning machinery.
- Perform minor maintenance and emergency repairs to leaking faucets, plugged drains, and faulty toilets; repair and service custodial equipment (buffers, vacuum cleaners, etc.).
- Conduct paint touch-ups and remove snow from walkways, driveways, parking lots.
- Provide security to State buildings: secure windows, doors, access ways; arm security systems; report deficiencies.
- Maintain logs of work completed, inventory, supplies used; complete required forms and routine reports.
- When designated as a lead worker or night‑shift supervisor, delegate work assignments, train subordinate staff, review completed tasks, and maintain equipment inventory.
Additional related duties may be required as the need arises.
QualificationsEducation:
- High school graduation or equivalent education.
Experience:
- One year of custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, industrial, hospital, governmental, or similar environment; OR six months of general work experience plus one year of custodial or janitorial experience in a similar environment; OR six months as a Custodial Worker I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Additional InformationWorking knowledge of:
- Materials and equipment used in custodial functions.
- Safe and proper methods of using and mixing cleaning chemicals.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Perform minor maintenance and emergency repairs to leaking faucets, plugged drains, or malfunctioning toilets.
- Execute lead worker duties such as assigning and reviewing work and training new employees.
- Maintain supply inventory records and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Skill in:
- Repairing leaking faucets, plugged drains, and faulty toilets.
