DEPARTMENT:

JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for assisting with maintenance, upkeep, and groundskeeping at water treatment and wastewater treatment facilities to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations
- Assists with general maintenance and upkeep of water and wastewater treatment plant facilities.
- Performs routine groundskeeping duties including mowing, weed eating, trimming, edging, and debris removal.
- Maintains cleanliness of plant sites, buildings, tanks, basins, and equipment areas.
- Assists operators and maintenance staff with basic repairs and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Inspects grounds and facilities for safety hazards and reports issues to supervisors.
- Assists with painting, pressure washing, and minor building repairs.
- Loads, unloads, and transports materials, tools, and equipment.
- Operates light equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and small utility vehicles.
- Assists with maintaining fences, gates, signage, and access roads.
- Performs basic custodial duties including cleaning offices, restrooms, and common areas as needed.
- Helps maintain proper storage and organization of tools, chemicals, and supplies.
- Follows all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assists during emergency response situations such as spills, weather events, or system failures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of basic grounds maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of safe operation of hand tools and light equipment.
- Knowledge of general maintenance and repair practices.
- Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and hazard recognition.
- Knowledge of proper handling of materials and supplies.
- Skill in operating landscaping and maintenance equipment.
- Skill in following instructions and completing assigned tasks.
- Skill in basic problem solving and identifying maintenance issues.
- Skill in time management and working independently or as part of a team.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and quality standards.
GUIDELINES:
Guidelines include city policies, safety procedures, and standard operating practices. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require judgment in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK:
The work consists of related maintenance and groundskeeping duties. Physical demands and outdoor working conditions contribute to the complexity of the position.
CONTACTS:
Contacts are typically with coworkers, supervisors, and plant personnel.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:
Contacts are for the purpose of exchanging information and coordinating work activities.
- The work is typically performed outdoors and indoors, often in varying weather conditions.
- The employee may be exposed to noise, chemicals, machinery, and other hazards associated with water and wastewater facilities.
- The work requires lifting, bending, walking, standing, and operating equipment.
- Use of protective equipment is required.
