Description of Work

Do you enjoy working outside and with your hands? NC State Parks has a Maintenance/Construction Technician II position available. This role is responsible for hands-on work maintaining grounds, buildings, facilities, and equipment. Work includes custodial tasks, boundary line clearing, routine maintenance, trail maintenance, trash collection, mowing and trimming, prescribed burn assistance and/or auto mechanics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in a trade such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and facility maintenance, and/or auto mechanics.
  • Operation and repair of large and small equipment and/or tools.
  • Purchasing resources in accordance with state purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining records and preparing operational forms.
  • Assisting in housekeeping.
  • May Supervise temporary and permanent staff, community service participates, and/or volunteers on special projects.

Recruitment Range: $34,270 – $50,000

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are not required.

Applicants who possess the following are preferred:

  • Demonstrated work experience performing trades in at least two of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/or auto mechanics.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing grounds maintenance/landscaping.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on buildings, facilities, and grounds maintenance equipment.
Position/Physical Requirements

Typical work schedule is Monday to Friday, 6:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., must be able to work evenings, holidays, and/or weekends when necessary. This schedule may vary. Must be able to perform work inside and outside in various environmental conditions with or without reasonable accommodation. Must have ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects with or without reasonable accommodation.

Position is considered “Essential/Mandatory Staff” and required to work on adverse weather days, during park emergencies, and may be called to work on special events.

Must have a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment. Within 12-24 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain and maintain:
