Job Summary
We are seeking Assistant Supervisors to join our Building Services Supervisor team in University Housing Facilities. This supervisory role leads Facilities Technicians and Custodial staff, ensuring facilities are properly maintained for residence hall, dining, and other housing locations. The Assistant Supervisor provides coverage for the supervisor as needed, responds to emergencies, and adjusts work plans as required, conducts cleanliness inspections, performs performance reviews, and handles resident/customer concerns.
The role ensures life/safety requirements are met and customer service levels maintained, with partial cleaning responsibilities.
- Utilize basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables.
- Maintain clean and clear walkways free of debris, litter, snow, and ice.
- Assist in the development, scheduling, inspection, and supervision of operational work plans and staff for an assigned unit.
- Monitor and secure facility interior and exterior entrances, reporting issues to appropriate entities.
- Assist with planning and implementation of facility emergency and hazardous response policies and procedures.
- Maintain organization of supply areas and equipment, document inventory, and request additional supplies as needed.
- Document and report repairs, violations, and pest control needs.
- Serve as a supervisory point of contact for Facilities Technicians and Custodial staff.
- Six months of previous experience in a custodial or maintenance field.
- Valid Driver’s License meeting UW Rist Management Standards (Preferred for 1st Shift, Required for 3rd Shift).
- High School Diploma (Preferred).
- One year of continuous employment (Preferred).
- Six months of previous leadership or supervisory experience (Preferred).
Primary schedule: 1st Shift – 7:00am to 4:30pm, Monday–Friday (some weekends). Schedule may be altered as operations and position expectations demand.
Compensation and BenefitsStarting hourly wage $23.00 or higher based on qualifications, with a competitive retirement and benefits package including vacation, holidays, and paid time off. Additional pay: $2.50/hour for nighttime work on weekdays (6:00pm to 6:00am), up to $2.50/hour for daytime weekend work, and up to $3.30/hour for nighttime weekend work. Additional Information – Background CheckThis position is classified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate must pass an initial criminal background check and subsequent checks every four years to remain eligible for employment.
