Seasonal Municipal Worker

The City of Casper is hiring Seasonal Municipal Workers for the season! From April 17 to September 30, you can earn competitive pay while working up to 32–40 hours per week with flexible scheduling. Help keep our community clean and safe by performing a variety of tasks including litter pickup, assisting customers at the Transfer Station, maintaining public spaces, and operating light equipment.

Incumbents are responsible for a variety of semi-skilled labor tasks related to an assigned division. Responsibilities may include routine physical labor and/or on-the-job instruction. Receives general supervision from higher-level supervisory and management staff in assigned division.

Typical duties include:

  • Manual labor tasks such as cultivating and fertilizing flowers, grass, and shrubs; basic building maintenance; shoveling snow, mowing and basic irrigation; clearing and maintaining landfill ditches; storm water maintenance; repairing and maintaining roadways; and working with crews performing basic construction and maintenance repairs.
  • Operating dump trucks with snow plows, front end loaders, backhoes, boom trucks, forklifts, light sanitation vehicles, tractors, mowers, jackhammers and a variety of other related tools, equipment and vehicles as needed.
  • Basic inspection, repair and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assisting with installing street signs, barriers, and painting street markings.
  • Receiving cash, counting cash and operating a cash register; completing daily operational reports.
  • Light cleaning, litter pickup and/or housekeeping activities.
  • Assisting with work on special projects.
  • Providing general customer service and communicating with the public regarding fees, policies, rules and general information about the facility or event.
  • Representing the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.
  • Following all City safety procedures. Reporting all accidents/incidents immediately to supervisor.
  • Performing other duties of a similar nature or level.

Knowledge of customer service principles, standard safety practices and procedures, semi-skilled maintenance and manual tasks, and proper use of basic tools and equipment is required.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, perform a variety of manual tasks for prolonged periods, access and maneuver difficult terrain while carrying a variety of hand tools, work in holes, dig trenches, climb ladders and clean-up work sites in a neat and orderly fashion, safely use a number of hand tools; work around pesticides and in landscapes, communicate effectively verbally, follow written and verbal instructions and direction, and operate, service, check and load equipment is required.

Skill in operating in a courteous, knowledgeable and tactful manner with staff and general public, and manual labor is required.

Education and experience:

High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), at least 18 years of age, minimum of one year of experience performing manual labor in construction, energy or manufacturing industry, building maintenance, or grounds maintenance utilizing light hand or power tools preferred. Licensing Requirements:
Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months of hire, a valid Wyoming Class B Commercial Driver's License with applicable endorsements per assigned division is preferred.

Employment with the City of Casper is contingent upon a successful background screen and pre-employment drug test. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must utilize direct deposit for payroll purposes. Driving records are required for all new employees regardless of the position's driving requirements. If the employee has not held a Wyoming driver's license for the last three years, the employee must provide at their own initiation and expense a driving record from their previous state(s) of residence.

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Can include long periods of sitting or long periods of standing. Medium work:
Exerting up to 90 pounds of force using jackhammers occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Incumbents frequently drive, operate equipment, or work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. Frequent work on or around moving motorized equipment is also expected.
