Seasonal Building Maintenance Worker

Performs semi-skilled work involving general interior and exterior building and grounds maintenance at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Work involves supporting event operations, maintaining buildings, barns, arenas, and public areas, and assisting with setup, teardown, and upkeep of fairgrounds facilities year-round.

Generally, the hiring range is $18.97-$23.72 per hour. Qualifications, education, and experience as it relates to the position will be considered when determining hiring salary.

As a temporary position, no benefits are available.

• Maintain venue quality, consisting of maintaining the look of the facility and working with internal departments to assist in the facilitation of smooth and successful events.
• Perform semi-skilled and skilled work involving painting, plumbing, carpentry, basic electrical, and general building repair across fairgrounds facilities.
• Assist with the upkeep and safe operation of building systems and equipment including HVAC, lighting, water systems, and public restrooms.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on barns, stables, arenas, bleachers, grandstands, and outdoor structures.
• Support event operations by setting up and tearing down equipment, furniture, pens, fencing, and signage for fairs, rodeos, livestock shows, and other public events.
• Provide custodial services for public areas including restrooms, meeting spaces, barns, stalls, concession areas, and arenas before, during, and after events.
• Respond to urgent maintenance needs during events to ensure safety and minimize disruption.
• Maintain fairgrounds landscaping including snow and ice removal, weed control, and trash removal across grounds, sidewalks, and parking areas.
• Operate light equipment and vehicles such as utility carts, tractors, lifts, and pickup trucks to transport materials, supplies, and waste.
• Monitor supply inventories and assist with ordering and restocking building and custodial supplies for fairgrounds operations.
• Ensure county vehicles and equipment are properly maintained by cleaning interiors/exteriors and following service schedules.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of building maintenance experience.
• Combination of education and experience may be considered for a well-qualified candidate.

• Successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.
• Valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record at time of hire and periodically thereafter.

In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected/Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions. This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required.

In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
