Job Description
Cedar Rapids Community School District, Cleveland Elementary School, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Hiawatha Custodian I 2:30pm-11:00pm
Principal Duties- Assume responsibility for the building in the absence of the engineer
- Take down flag and care of school no parking signs
- General cleaning: sweeping, emptying waste receptacles, cleaning toilet facilities, filling dispensers, cleaning carpets and blinds
- Clean light fixtures and replace bulbs
- Do yard work: grass mowing, weeding, trimming, general clean up
- Keep walks and entries clear of ice and snow
- Help with receiving, storing, and delivering supplies for the building and cafeteria
- Move and arrange furniture for school functions
- Respond to alarm calls
- Carry out additional requests of principal and building engineer as needed
- Knowledge of modern cleaning methods and use and care of materials, tools, and equipment
- Ability to perform minor building and equipment repairs
- Ability to plan, organize, and carry out work schedules efficiently
- Physical strength, stamina, endurance for vigorous manual work, climb stairs, lift heavy loads
- Must pass Physical Capacity Profile tests
- Neat appearance and good work habits
- Function with minimum instruction and supervision after brief induction
- Hours vary depending on location and assignment
- Ability to read, write, understand English
- Computer literacy required
- Above list not all inclusive
- Ability to solve problems effectively
- Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
Skills and Abilities
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, colleagues, community members, staff, students
- Speak clearly and concisely in oral and written communication
- Perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies
Physical demands include standing, walking, climbing, using hands, squatting, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing/pulling, and lifting/moving heavy objects. Specific examples: climb ladder with tool belt (~10 lb), shoveling 30 lb, push/pull 40 lb, lift 50–70 lb. May require exerting up to 100 lbs occasionally.
Working EnvironmentUsually quiet; may work in areas with hearing protection required. Works on surfaces: tile, wood, terrazzo, concrete. Occasional outdoor work in hot or cold weather, rain, snow, sleet, icy conditions. Damp surfaces.
CompensationHourly rate: $21.51 per hour. Classification:
Category B of salary schedule.
