COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE (CPW)
Our Mission is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, to provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado's natural resources.
A customer service based position that involves working in an entrance station greeting visitors, or may be assigned to work in the field in specialized duties at some parks. Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills.
Responsibilities – Entrance Station- Staff the park entrance station.
- Provide information and assistance to visitors (distributes maps/brochures, orients visitors to park facilities and amenities, promotes education programs, educates on State Park regulations).
- Provide information to the boating and non‑boating public.
- Sell park passes, permits, books, maps, clothing, firewood and other novelties.
- May sell gift certificates, search and rescue cards, boat registrations, OHV registrations and snowmobile registrations, fishing and hunting licenses at some locations.
- Operate a computer Point of Sales system.
- Answer telephones and transfer/take messages.
- Photo‑copy and file documents.
- Collect revenue, complete shift report and balance shift box at end of each shift.
- May prepare campground reservation forms and documents.
- May document and report visitor complaints.
- Clean and perform light maintenance duties of interior and exterior of entrance station and offices, including litter pick‑up.
- May assist with special events or programs within the park.
- Responsible for all general park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities including restrooms, showers, vault toilets, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc.
- Operate and perform routine maintenance on State‑owned vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure quality customer service and facility maintenance, repair and cleanliness.
- Provide information and assistance to visitors.
- May assist with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work and transporting materials and supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a current motor vehicle report.
- Willing to work outside during inclement weather.
- Must be able to lift 75–100 pounds repeatedly during the course of a single workday.
- Knowledge of power tools and hand tools preferred.
- Knowledge of small engine and other equipment maintenance and repair preferred.
- First Aid and CPR certifications may be required (may be covered by CPW).
- Must be able to work various shifts, weekends and holidays.
- Possess good interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work with little supervision.
Previous experience handling money and working with the public is helpful. Substantial comfort and experience with computer, specifically Point of Sales programs, is required. May need to undergo criminal background investigation. Applications may be received online or in person in State Park. May be required to work the entrance station for an 8‑hour shift and take lunch in the station.
Pursuant to the DNR‑120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a State‑owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State‑owned vehicle.
