Position Overview
Temporary Watercraft Inspector & Decontaminator – Lead and General – 9 months or less (05/01/2026 – 10/31/2026).
Hourly rate: $18.50 – $19.50.

- Non‑Lead Inspector – Inspect boats at Twin Lakes near Leadville, ensuring compliance with state regulations and protocols. Work independently or in pairs to inspect launching and departing boats, control invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels, and provide public outreach by delivering printed material to visitors. Early morning, evening, and weekend work required.
- Lead Inspector – Perform all inspection and decontamination duties. Provide on‑the‑job training to inspection staff, create schedules, and ensure all shifts are covered during operational hours. Collect accurate time‑keeping records for payroll, work with area lead to resolve staffing challenges, recommend hiring/firing, maintain inventory of supplies, perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination unit, and provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species.
Early morning, evening, and weekend work required.
- High school diploma.
- Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early morning and late evenings.
- Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment preferred.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent customer service experience working with the public desired.
- Reliable and timely.
- Ability to self‑motivate and work independently.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any state‑owned vehicle.
