This is a temporary position (9 months or less) paying $18.50-$19.50 per hour. Employment starts 04/28/2026 through 09/30/2026. This posting is for both Lead and Non Lead Inspector positions. ResponsibilitiesNon Lead Inspector:
Perform boat inspection and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols. Work independently or in pairs to inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, focusing on invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels. Provide public outreach on the aquatic invasive species topic by giving printed materials to visitors. Reports to the boat ramp.
Lead Inspector:
Perform boat inspection and decontaminator responsibilities at Antero Reservoir. Serve as site lead, provide on-the-job training to inspection staff, create schedules, ensure shifts are covered during operational hours, and verify accurate timekeeping for payroll. Coordinate with the area work lead to resolve staff and customer challenges and participate in hiring decisions. Ensure staff follow standardized protocols, perform monthly quality control assessments, ensure accurate data entry, maintain inventory of supplies, perform basic maintenance on decontamination equipment, and provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species.
Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR LEAD
- High school diploma.
- Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early morning and late evenings.
- Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment preferred.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent customer service experience working with the public desired.
- Reliable and timely.
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR NON LEAD
- High school diploma.
- Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early morning and late evenings.
- Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment preferred.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent customer service experience working with the public desired.
- Reliable and timely.
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or comparable work experience. Employee may be asked to camp in rustic settings and must provide own camping equipment and gear when performing biological field work.
Additional InformationPursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a state-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any state-owned vehicle. To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who have an assigned state fleet vehicle, who are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, or who use a state fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.
