Maintenance Technician – Athletic Fields (Full Time, Non‑Exempt)

Salary

Hiring Range: $42,065 – $47,708 annually based on qualifications, education, and experience.

Position Summary

Under the close supervision of the Athletic Fields Supervisor and/or Lead Maintenance Specialist, this position is responsible for accomplishing the various skilled labor tasks that are associated with the accepted maintenance practices for athletic fields and play courts. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.

Essential Duties
  • Ensures the safety of users of district athletic fields and play courts and keeps district liability risk at a minimum by properly maintaining play areas to established standards.
  • Maintains all athletic fields (mowing, burning, spraying, dragging, lining, painting, replacing backstop boards, pouring cement base posts, and chalking).
  • Replaces tennis nets, straps, windscreens, repairs nets, fills cracks, and repairs and paints courts as needed.
  • Conducts athletic field inspections and documentation for removal, renovation, repair, or new design decisions.
  • Maintains and inspects all district fencing (split rail and chain link).
  • May assist with supervising part‑time/seasonal employees, orientation, training, review of work, and overseeing quality; occasionally supervises volunteers and community service workers.
  • Assists in pesticide and herbicide application and weed removal as required.
  • Exercises good judgment and safety precautions at all times.
  • Keeps accurate time‑card records, daily activity reports, and other required reports.
  • Assists with district‑related special events by delivering materials, setting up and disassembling event tents, tables, picnic benches, and chairs.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with district employees, vendors, outside user groups, and associations.
  • May fill in for absent employees to ensure operations continue smoothly.
  • Responds tactfully to inquiries and problems via person, email, phone, or mail, providing helpful information per district policies.
  • Participates in cleaning and maintenance of the facility as needed.
  • Attends and participates in trainings, orientations, and staff meetings on project progress, safety, maintenance practices, procedural changes, and other relevant topics.
  • Attends work on a regular, reliable, and punctual basis.
  • May work weekends, evenings, holidays, be on snow watch, and work shifts deviating from normal workdays or with other work groups.
  • Complies with district and departmental vision, mission, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains, operates, and cares for assigned tools and equipment; performs preventive maintenance or minor repairs and notifies appropriate personnel of needed service.
  • Performs snow and ice removal using plow trucks, blowers, spreaders, shovels, ice scrapers, de‑icing salts, or sand.
Education and Experience
  • Must be 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of skilled labor experience related to park, field, or grounds maintenance. One year preferred.
  • Any combination of experience, training, and education that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications and Other Requirements
  • Valid Colorado driver license or ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of maintenance procedures, operations, and safety standards for athletic fields and play courts.
  • Ability to operate or receive training on various types of maintenance and construction equipment.
  • Ability to work in and promote a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of equipment, materials, techniques, and supplies used in athletic field maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safe and proper operation of snowplows and snow blowers.
  • Ability to train employees, community service workers, and volunteers.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and practice proper safety precautions.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods.
