San Juan County is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Custodian to maintain clean, sanitary, and welcoming public facilities. This position supports daily operations during open business hours by ensuring County buildings are safe, orderly, and ready for employees, visitors, and community use.
Hourly range: $14.15 - $16.62 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications)
Status: Full‑time Regular, Non‑exempt

Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED (may be waived upon successful completion of a County‑administered assessment demonstrating required competencies in reading comprehension, basic mathematics, and computer use)
- One (1) year of custodial experience preferred (not required).
- Valid New Mexico Driver’s License or ability to obtain within six (6) months (may be waived if position allows)
- Final candidate(s) will be subject to a comprehensive background investigation, which may include fingerprint‑based records checks and queries of national, state, and local criminal justice information systems, conducted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments and may include exposure to wet conditions, extreme temperatures, cleaning chemicals, and moderate to loud noise levels. This position is physically active and requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
- Full‑time work hours for this position consist of nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- Rotating weekend and overtime scheduling are a requirement for the operations of this facility.
- Work schedule for this position may include working on religious holidays.
- Utilize, process, and navigate the County’s electronic ERP system as necessary and appropriate based on the needs and requirements of this position.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, urinals, sinks, fixtures, and mirrors
- Clean offices and common areas, including desks, tables, and equipment
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors and surfaces
- Clean and sanitize break rooms, counters, sinks, and appliances
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles
- Strip, wax, buff, and polish floors
- Shampoo carpets periodically
- Clean interior and exterior windows
- Sweep entryways, sidewalks, and common areas
- Remove cobwebs and maintain overall cleanliness of assigned facilities
- Clean drinking fountains, vents, and high‑touch surfaces
- Mix and use cleaning solutions safely and appropriately
- Maintain and restock custodial carts and supplies
- Operate custodial equipment such as vacuums and floor machines
- Assist with setup and cleanup for meetings, public events, and County functions (including McGee Park)
- Utilize the County’s electronic ERP system for basic work tracking as needed
- Follow all safety procedures and regulations
- Report hazards or facility concerns promptly
Performs other related duties as assigned.
