Longwall Foreman - Mine East

We are seeking a Longwall Foreman to work in our operations near Brookwood, Alabama. We expect this person to be a role model for the “Warrior Way” and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and teamwork.

As a Longwall Foreman, you will perform various tasks related to longwall operations personnel and management for their respective shift and department. The Longwall Foreman will work closely with supervisors and other team members to maintain a safe work environment while adhering to company policies and procedures.

• Supervise all personnel and activities on the longwall section, ensuring production goals are met while maintaining high safety standards.
• Monitor and enforce compliance with MSHA regulations, company safety policies, and mine‑specific procedures.
• Lead and coordinate daily pre‑shift meetings, hazard assessments, and job task assignments.
• Direct the operation, troubleshooting, and minor maintenance of longwall equipment, including shearers, shields, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
• Monitor geological conditions and work closely with engineering and geotechnical teams to adapt mining practices accordingly.
• Prepare and maintain accurate production and inspection records, including pre‑operational checks and shift reports.
• Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Respond promptly to emergencies or equipment failures and coordinate with appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Train, mentor, and evaluate miners assigned to the longwall section.

• High School Diploma or GED required; advanced technical training or mining certifications preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in underground coal mining, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role on a longwall section.
• Valid Alabama Underground Mine Foreman Certification (or ability to obtain).
• Strong knowledge of longwall mining systems, hydraulics, ventilation, ground control, and mine safety regulations.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting mine maps, ventilation plans, and production data.
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces.
• Must be able to sit for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
• Must be able to walk for up to 4 hours at a time and through different sections of the mine with varying clearance and headroom.
• Must be able to bend or stoop for a full work period because of mine height.
• Must be able to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.
• Must be able to do repetitive hand and wrist motions and have quick reflex movements of the arms and legs as well as good hand‑to‑eye coordination.
• Must be able to lift 25 to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally lift items weighing up to 75 pounds.
• Must be able to work in extreme conditions, including changing weather, dust, mud, varying noise and light levels, and confined work areas.
• Must be able to wear the required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.

• Improve safety standards by holding safety meetings, conducting safety interactions, and taking corrective action where required.
• Ensure adherence to State, Federal and Company workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control.
• Maintain a high level of safety performance through effective communication, monitoring, and revision of standard work procedures.
• Identify and report safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, and property damage at the workplace.
• Attend and participate in all scheduled safety meetings and training.
• Investigate accidents and near misses with a view toward positive action, through training, equipment set‑up or equipment repair and report on findings and conclusions.
• Maintain environmental awareness among the workforce by holding meetings and involving the environmental department in related subjects.
• Ensure adherence to environmental policy, work standards, management plans and regulatory obligations and requirements.
• Integrate environmental policies, programs, and practices into all activities of the organization.
