Location:
Must live within 45 minutes of Baton Rouge, LA.
- Build tows by handling lines and cables to tie/untie barges and boats.
- Perform scheduled vessel maintenance for tools and equipment and general housekeeping duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Work a 14 days on/7 days off or 20 days on/10 days off schedule, 12‑hour shifts day and night.
- Attach and remove lines and cables to and from vessel, barges, docks, locks.
- Operate winches to tighten lines or cables, monitor and adjust tension during towing, loading, discharging, locking or docking.
- Untie and retie lines 4 to 8 times during loading and discharging to adjust to vessel and barge height changes.
- Maintain vessel by sweeping, removing rust, priming and painting.
- Make minor repairs such as tightening bolts, replacing fluid and air lines, hanging light bulbs, replacing equipment such as cables, winches, pumps, fan belts.
- Use tools such as hammers, fire axes, ratchets, hand winches, stripping pumps, needle guns and grinders.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather, outdoors, heat and cold.
- Must be willing and able to attend paid required training on and off scheduled work time.
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to drive to/from vessel location.
$207 per day, plus benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), etc.).
Qualifications, Competencies and Certification Requirements- Valid TWIC card in hand prior to applying.
- Valid driver’s license.
- No DWI or DUI in the last three years.
- No more than two moving driving violations in the last three years.
- Must satisfy all United States Coast Guard physical requirements (CG‑719K) and 46 CFR Part 10.
- Must satisfy all United States Coast Guard Chemical Drug Testing Programs for Vessel Personnel, 46 CFR Part 10.
- Must pass company requirements of 46 CFR Part 197 Subpart C Benzene.
- Valid state‑issued birth certificate required.
- Valid social security card required.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- No pending criminal charges or probation.
- Must meet standards of the Criteria Skill Assessment (online).
- Must read and write English; understand written and verbal orders.
- Must not be color‑blind.
- Walk: 2–3 miles per day.
- Step: 2 ft vertical and 2 ft horizontal.
- Reach: full horizontal and vertical arms range (throwing and catching lines).
- Climb: 90‑degree vertical ladder 25–30 ft, carrying weight while climbing.
- Grip/Hold/Pull: 50 lb.
- Lift: 75 lb.
- Lift & Carry: 50 lb for ≈350 ft.
- Vision: color vision and eyesight sufficient to pass eye test, 20/200 uncorrected, 20/40 corrected.
- Hearing: minimum USCG standards.
- Speech: verbal communicate in English via handheld radios or other devices.
- Smell: detect presence of potentially dangerous vapors.
- Pulmonary: pass function test with ≥75 %.
- General: enter and exit hatches/doorways quickly in emergency.
- Equipment: wear negative or positive pressure respirator, PVC foul‑weather gear, personal flotation device, rubber gloves and boots.
- Use firefighting / spill containment equipment.
