Position SummaryThe Custodial Supervisor reports to the Director of Facilities and leads day‑to‑day and event custodial operations at the Charleston Gaillard Center. This working supervisor schedules and directs part‑time custodial staff, prepares the venue for performances, rehearsals, community events, and private functions, and keeps public and back‑of‑house areas at a consistent standard during event operations. The role is the primary on‑site contact for event‑related custodial needs and works with other departments to complete turns, resolve issues quickly, and leave the building ready for the next use.
Responsibilities- Lead and perform hands‑on custodial work, covering staffing gaps as needed, so the Gaillard Center is event‑ready for performances, rehearsals, community gatherings, and private functions.
- Schedule, assign, and direct part‑time custodial staff for daily operations and event coverage, including load‑in, show, intermission, strike, and overnight resets.
- Serve as the on‑site custodial supervisor during assigned events; handle routine requests from event staff, vendors, and clients and elevate issues requiring the Director of Facilities’ attention.
- Inspect public areas, restrooms, back‑of‑house spaces, and specialty floors (terrazzo, carpet, wood, marble) before, during, and after events; correct deficiencies and report results to the Director of Facilities.
- Complete event turns to a set standard: trash and recycling, restroom reset, high‑touch sanitizing, spill response, floor care, and restocking.
- Train part‑time staff on cleaning methods, equipment, chemicals, and safety; check quality of work and correct it on the floor.
- Ensure safe chemical use, storage, and labeling; and enforce workplace safety procedures.
- Monitor consumable inventory (paper, soap, liners, chemicals); keep stock on hand and flag shortages before events.
- Coordinate custodial timing with other departments so cleaning does not conflict with load‑in, rehearsals, or client use.
- Maintain basic records for inspections, staffing, and supply use.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
- Four (4) years of custodial or janitorial experience, preferably in a performing arts venue, hotel, or event space, including at least one (1) year in a lead or supervisory role.
- Familiarity with floor types (carpet, terrazzo, marble, wood) and safe cleaning methods.
- Ability to lead, train, and manage a custodial team and janitorial contractors.
- Basic computer skills (email, Microsoft Office, or similar) for records and reports.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overnight shifts.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working in an events venue or similar setting.
- Experience with inventory and supply management.
