IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Supervisor of Maintenance
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

EMPLOYMENT TERM: Minimum 261days annually

SALARY:
Pursuant to WV Code 18A-4-8a, in accordance with Kanawha County Salary Scale,
Pay Grade C commensurate with experience and education level.

EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code 18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314, and KCS's Guide to Performance Evaluation for Service Personnel.
JOB SUMMARY: Employed as helpers to skilled maintenance employees, performs maintenance tasks promptly and efficiently as directed by the Supervisor.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Job Duties.
  • Assists in maintenance, repair and construction of equipment and buildings.
  • Assists in maintenance and care of grounds.
  • Assists electricians, plumbers, carpenters, roofers, painters, welders and other maintenance workers as assigned.
  • Overtime must be approved by Executive Director of Maintenance.
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations and uses prescribed personal protective equipment.
  • May be called upon to drive a truck.
  • Clean brushes, cut grass, dig ditches, and perform other minor grounds maintenance duties.
  • Load and unload trucks.
  • Move or haul such items as supplies, office furniture, and building materials.
  • Service county automobiles to the extent of filling with gasoline, checking the oil, and wiper fluids, etc.
  • Arrange furniture, chairs, tables, and providing preparations/adequate support for special events.
  • Assist skilled maintenance workers with projects (for the purpose of completing projects in safe, efficient manner).
  • Maintain and use tools and equipment for the purposes of ensuring availability and safe operating conditions.
  • Complete daily work orders in a timely and accurate manner (always working in a safe manner).
  • This position may work around hazardous materials such as gasoline, diesel, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code 18A-2-5;
    Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code 18-5-15c;
  • Meet the definition of "Qualifications" in WV Code 18A-4-8b; demonstrated competency, pursuant to WV Code 18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test) as required.
  • Valid Driver's License.
General Maintenance means personnel employed as helpers to skilled maintenance employees and to perform minor repairs to equipment and building of a county school system.
  • Ability to comprehend written or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to and possess sufficient mathematical skill to make proper dilutions and mixing of cleaning compounds.
  • Ability to comprehend basic conception of the scope and responsibility involved in the custodial work.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, walk, stoop, reach, lift, pull, push and climb a ladder.

The employee is required to use technology such as computers and multi-media equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus. Occasionally the employee will lift up to 70 pounds such as to lift files and materials. Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
