SALARY:
Pursuant to WV Code 18A-4-8a, in accordance with Kanawha County Salary Scale, Pay Grade A, C, or D commensurate with experience and education level.

EVALUATION:
Performance in this position will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code 18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314, and KCS's Guide to Performance Evaluation for Service Personnel.
The Summer Floor Care Technician is responsible for performing deep cleaning and floor maintenance services across multiple school facilities within the high school feeder area. This includes stripping, waxing, buffing, and maintaining various floor surfaces to ensure a clean, safe, and polished environment ahead of the new academic year. Crew members will also assist with moving and resetting furniture to allow full access to floor areas.
Key Responsibilities- Perform floor stripping and waxing of VCT, tile, and other hard surfaces according to district standards
- Operate and maintain floor care equipment such as buffers, burnishers, and wet vacuums
- Sweep, mop, scrub, and prepare surfaces prior to finishing
- Apply floor finishes and sealers evenly and safely
- Move, lift, and reset classroom and office furniture (desks, tables, cabinets, etc.) to facilitate floor work
- Follow proper safety procedures when handling chemicals and equipment
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Assist with other custodial or maintenance tasks as assigned
Prior experience in floor care (stripping, waxing, buffing) preferred
Experience in custodial or janitorial work, especially in school or large facility settings, is highly desirable
Ability to safely move and lift heavy furniture (50+ lbs)
Familiarity with floor care equipment and cleaning chemicals is a plus
Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work
High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code 18A-2-5;
Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code 18-5-15c;
Meet the definition of "Qualifications" in WV Code 18A-4-8b; demonstrated competency, pursuant to WV Code 18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test) as required.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods
Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy furniture and equipment
Comfortable working in warm environments and during extended shifts
Work Schedule:
Seasonal summer position (typically June August) Full-time hours with potential for overtime Work may occur during early mornings, evenings, or weekends to meet project deadlines
