Job Summary

The General Maintenance Technician supports maintenance, facilities, operations, and purchasing activities by performing general maintenance, housekeeping, inventory management, material handling, and facility support functions. This position assists in maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work environment while supporting plant operations and maintenance activities. The General Maintenance Technician performs assigned duties under the direction of supervisory personnel and in accordance with established procedures, training requirements, and safety standards.

Job Summary

The General Maintenance Technician supports maintenance, facilities, operations, and purchasing activities by performing general maintenance, housekeeping, inventory management, material handling, and facility support functions. This position assists in maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work environment while supporting plant operations and maintenance activities. The General Maintenance Technician performs assigned duties under the direction of supervisory personnel and in accordance with established procedures, training requirements, and safety standards.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist the maintenance department with routine maintenance and facility support activities under the direction of a maintenance supervisor.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties, including cleaning, sweeping, washing, painting, and maintaining work areas.
  • Participate in 5S initiatives and workplace organization activities in accordance with established processes.
  • Support inventory management activities, including locating, relocating, labeling, tracking, organizing, and restocking parts, materials, and equipment.
  • Operate VAC trucks and related equipment when properly trained and authorized.
  • Assist with maintenance activities by following specific work instructions and established safety procedures.
  • Serve as a confined space entry attendant or watch when properly trained and assigned.
  • Remove non-asbestos insulation as directed and in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Assist with removal of manways, heat exchanger heads, and other equipment components during maintenance activities.
  • Operate tow motors, forklifts, and other approved material handling equipment when properly trained and certified.
  • Move materials, parts, tools, and equipment throughout the facility as required.
  • Perform basic repair and maintenance activities within the scope of training and authorization.
  • Assist operations, facilities, and purchasing personnel with plant support activities as assigned.
  • Label equipment, materials, and process components throughout the facility.
  • Support grounds maintenance activities, including weed removal, road and dike repair, gravel application, and painting projects.
  • Replace and maintain plant signage as directed.
  • Perform cleanup of properly secured and neutralized areas and maintain good housekeeping throughout the facility.
  • Label, move, store, and organize waste drums and other plant materials in accordance with company procedures.
  • Assist department managers and supervisors with projects and work assignments for which proper training has been completed.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior industrial, manufacturing, maintenance, facilities, construction, or related experience preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, tow motors, VAC trucks, and other material handling equipment after required training and certification.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, safety requirements, and supervisor instructions.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform general maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and support multiple departments.
  • Ability to organize, track, and manage inventory, materials, and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
  • Ability to lift, carry, move, and handle tools, materials, and equipment as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, and work in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and participate in required training programs.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and complying with all company environmental, health, and safety policies.
