AFC Systems Technician - 103

The AFC Systems Technician - 103 will provide field service maintenance functions for all automated fare collection equipment throughout the bus and subway systems including but not limited to, fare vending machines, fareboxes, faregates, fare media validators, handheld validators, vaults and other associated equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and correct AFC equipment defects in a safe and efficient manner as directed by open AFC work orders in Service Now or by AFC management staff.
  • Remove and replace equipment modules as needed (i.e., bill validator).
  • Clean equipment and subcomponents on a regular basis.
  • Clear equipment jams.
  • Perform inspections and tests on equipment to determine operating performance.
  • Repair and service all subcomponents of devices.
  • Troubleshoot network communications and dataflow to help assess local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) problems in stations and facilities.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance procedures to all fare collection equipment as directed.
  • Use AFC proprietary software (CCS/Fare Go Data) to research and correct issues.
  • Complete and maintain accurate and timely preventive and corrective maintenance records on Service Now module utilizing company issued tablet or associated device.
  • Perform repair and maintenance on equipment in a cost-effective and timely manner.
  • Respond to company issued cell phone calls and messages in a timely manner.
  • Work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
  • Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Respond to emergencies twenty-four (24) hours, seven (7) days per week.
  • Adhere to the rules, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies.
  • Drive a company vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed.
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Additional responsibilities may include focus on one or more departments or locations. See applicable addendum for department or location-specific functions.

Supervision

  • No direct reports.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of electronic and electromechanical equipment and components.
  • Valid Massachusetts Journeyman Electrical license.
  • Ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. Successful applicant must have English language skills required for the effective performance of the position.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Effective organizational and analytical skills.
  • Hold a current full-time classification covered by the Local 103 contract.

Job Conditions
  • Ability to effectively read, comprehend, communicate, and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. in English.
  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age, except if participating in an approved high school internship / co-op program.
  • Ability to commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area, as required by the role.
  • Ability to provide internal and external customers with courteous and professional experiences.
  • Ability to work effectively, independently, and as part of a diverse workforce team (or supervise, if required).
  • Ability to uphold the rights and interests of the MBTA while building and maintaining effective relationships with employees and co-workers.
  • Ability to adhere to rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable), and policies of the MBTA, including the EEO, anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and anti-retaliation policies.
  • Have a satisfactory work record for the two (2) years immediately prior to the closing date of this posting (unless if current student or recent graduate), including overall employment, job performance, discipline, and safety records (infractions and/or offenses occurring after the closing of the posting and before the filling of a vacancy may preclude a candidate from consideration for selection).
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, comprehensive background screening, and / or medical Clinic screening, potentially including physical examination and drug and alcohol screenings.
