General Definition of Work
The head custodian, under moderate supervision, performs supervisory work with limited decision‑making discretion overseeing custodial personnel at an assigned school while providing and maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy environment for staff, students, and visitors. Employee performs both school‑based and district‑level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the Regional Custodial Services Supervisor.

Regional Custodial Services Supervisor
Place of WorkThe normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff in the district
- Record any personnel related issues in key incident journals
- Assist the area leader in the preparation of work schedules
- Complete quality assurance inspection reports and submit to area leader
- Train new staff regarding cleaning chemicals, equipment, and related supplies and materials
- Coordinate activities with other departments to ensure service is provided efficiently
- Inspect work performed to ensure that it meets expectations and established standards
- Investigate complaints about service and equipment. Take necessary corrective action
- Inspect the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required
- Perform duties of a custodian including:
- Maintain cleanliness both inside and outside the facility through the execution of established procedures
- Inspect school grounds daily to remove debris and other items that could become a safety hazard or detract from the general appearance of the school
- Clean classrooms, including but not limited to, removing trash, dusting furniture and equipment, sweeping and mopping the floors, and polishing metal fixtures
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including but not limited to, fixtures, sinks, urinals, toilets, showers; replenish supplies in restrooms
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, wax, strip, and polish floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets
- Clean all staff and special purpose areas, including but not limited to, dusting and polishing furniture, woodwork, fixtures and equipment
- Maintain cleanliness of windows, mirrors, walls, desks, and tables/countertops
- Follow developed work schedules for scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors
- Follow developed work schedules for extracting, spot cleaning, and vacuuming carpeted areas
- Perform light maintenance by replacing light bulbs and air filters, clean air vents, and adjusted blinds/shades as requested
- Empty, clean and sanitize waste receptacles; pick up papers and other debris
- Assist in receiving, storing, and distributing supplies and equipment as needed. Keep all storage areas organized and clean
- Move and arrange furniture and equipment; set up rooms for conferences and meetings
- Identify and report building maintenance needs; assist maintenance staff with repairs
- Maintain and operate a variety of custodial equipment including vacuum polishers and wax strippers
- Perform related work as assigned or required
- Knowledge of county and school board policies, procedures, and standards
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products and equipment
