Job Summary:

Carrier is seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Mechanic to support the daily operations of our engineering labs. This individual will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide variety of mechanical, HVAC, and test equipment used in research and development testing. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, experience in a technical lab or manufacturing environment, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on lab infrastructure and HVAC test equipment.

Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on compressors, pumps, chillers, heat exchangers, valves, and related components.

Support installation and commissioning of new test rigs and lab systems, including mechanical hookups, alignments, and calibrations.

Maintain accurate service logs and preventive maintenance records.

Conduct inspections and safety checks of lab utilities, including chilled water, compressed air, refrigerant systems, and electrical interfaces.

Follow and enforce safety protocols and lab operating procedures in accordance with Carrier and regulatory guidelines.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of the lab maintenance workspace and inventory.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED

Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical maintenance or HVAC systems in a lab, manufacturing, or industrial setting.

Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals.

Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and test instruments.

Understanding of safety procedures and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols.

Comfortable working in a test environment with experimental systems and changing configurations.

Familiarity with basic electrical troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications:

EPA 608 Certification (Universal).

Experience working with HVAC/R test labs or environmental chambers.

Forklift or overhead crane certification is a plus.

Work Environment:

Hands-on role requiring frequent standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), climbing ladders, and working around moving mechanical equipment.

Exposure to temperature variations, refrigerants, compressed gases, and other lab-specific conditions.

Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required to support critical maintenance schedules.
