General Definition of WorkThe supervisor of equipment maintenance, under minimal supervision, performs supervisory work with limited decision-making discretion related to managing the vehicular/equipment maintenance program at CMS Building Services repair facility. The role will provide supervision, training, and evaluation of all fleet maintenance personnel assigned as well as complete mechanical maintenance and repair activities. The supervisor of equipment maintenance is also responsible for the administration of shop economic policies and site organization which meet the needs of the schools, departments, and programs served by the site.
Employee performs district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the Director of Maintenance Engineering.

Place of WorkThe normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte

- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned programs/staff in the district
- Inspect and review activities to ensure that work is completed in a timely and appropriate manner
- Make and recommend changes when necessary for improvement
- Establish site hours and individual schedules necessary to meet the needs of the schools and programs served
- Establish and verify daily hours for assigned personnel. Approve/disapprove leave, vacation, and overtime requests for assigned personnel
- Participate in the selection of the staff, provide or coordinate staff training, evaluate performance, develops improvement plans when needed, and implement discipline procedures for the staff
- Communicates clearly, concisely, and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
- Work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and capable of operating on a flexible schedule
- Perform technical inspections and major repairs and maintenance when necessary
- Use special analysis, testing equipment, and troubleshooting procedures as needed
- Schedule the preventive maintenance program for all assigned vehicles through the state computer program
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs when necessary
- Coordinate and schedule major repairs with the Director of Maintenance
- Maintain all documentation required at the site including records of all inspections, repairs, and maintenance work performed as well as parts/supplies used
- Prepare or provide the essential information for the preparation of reports, budgets, payrolls, and other necessary documents
- Establish and maintain an on-site library which contains all manuals and publications required including NC Preventive Maintenance Manual, CMS Procedures Manual, OSHA publications/regulations, EPA publications/regulations, ADA publications/regulations, Material Safety Data Sheets, and Hazardous Materials Program
- Monitor, maintain, adjust, and order inventory of assorted materials and parts to facilitate timely service and repairs on fleet equipment
- Monitor NC safety emission standards and vehicle compliance
- Prepare reports necessary for the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
- Perform related work as assigned or required
- Knowledge of computer workstations, operating systems, network systems, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software
- Ability to act as subject matter expert or system administrator on various software/systems used by Building Services
