Description

Okuma America Corporation is seeking a skilled Field Service Technician IV to provide expert technical support, machine installations, and repair services for our customers across North America. In this role, you will diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, software, and automation-related issues on Okuma CNC machine tools and related equipment.

As a subject matter expert, you will work directly with customers, distributors, and internal teams to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and ensure optimal machine performance. This position plays a critical role in supporting customer success by resolving technical challenges that exceed distributor support capabilities and by contributing to the continuous improvement of service documentation and technical resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Travel to customer locations to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Okuma machine tools and automation systems.
  • Perform installations and commissioning of new machine models and advanced manufacturing equipment.
  • Install retrofit packages and implement machine upgrades or design improvements.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues involving mechanical systems, machine alignment, controls, hardware, software, peripherals, and automation technologies.
  • Provide technical support to customers and distributors via phone, email, and remote troubleshooting tools.
  • Document service activities and communicate findings through detailed service reports and technical documentation.
  • Develop and maintain technical bulletins, repair procedures, and "how-to" guides that strengthen distributor service capabilities.
  • Collaborate with distributors, customers, and internal service teams to ensure timely issue resolution and a positive customer experience.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, safety standards, and best practices.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance service delivery, and add value to customers.
What We're Looking For
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience working with CNC machine tools, manufacturing equipment, automation systems, or related industrial machinery.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hardware, software, and control systems.
  • Ability to work independently in a customer-facing field service environment.
  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively to support customer needs.

Qualifications

Experience/Training/Education
• Associates Degree in Electronics or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in CNC controls, servo systems, PLC's, automation, as well as fundamental mechanical background including precision measurement, machine tool theory, hydraulics, and pneumatics
• 5 years of prior machine tool experience (Okuma preferred)
• FANUC CNC experience (preferred)
• Okuma-Howa product knowledge (preferred)
• Prior technical writing experience (preferred) Knowledge/Skills/Abilities General:
Customer centric behavior and great team attitude
• Must effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment Technical:
• Proficient in the use of precision measuring/diagnostic equipment. Not limited to, but include the use of: laser, ball bar, micrometers, calibers, precision levels, precision indicators, dynamo meters, etc.
