Overview
We are excited to announce an opportunity within our Facilities Management Operations team for a Custodial Contract Specialist in the Custodial Services Department. This influential and highly collaborative role will oversee the performance and coordination of our custodial service partner and other vendors used by FM Custodial Services. The Custodial Contract Specialist will be instrumental in ensuring that contracted custodial services meet the quality standards set forth by the University.
Through active vendor management, routine inspections, schedule oversight, and partnership with zone management teams, this role will help ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for building occupants across Grounds. Custodial Operations provides environmentally-friendly custodial services for the Universitys facilities, including academic, medical research, residence halls and faculty housing, and other public buildings across Grounds. The UVA Custodial team holds the Green Seal GS-42 certification, awarded in 2013, and was the first higher education institution in Virginia, and third in the nation, to receive this certification.

Responsibilities- Vendor & Contract Performance Management – Serve as the primary liaison with custodial contractors and manage day-to-day vendor relationships; ensure compliance with scope of work through regular performance reviews, inspections, and accountability measures; identify deficiencies, implement corrective action plans with vendors, and track progress to resolution; review invoices, monitor contract budgets, and support financial forecasting and cost-efficiency efforts; oversee contractor access, documentation, and compliance with University security requirements.
- Customer & Stakeholder Support – Act as the main point of contact for building occupants and departments in contract-cleaned spaces; respond promptly to service concerns, special requests, and operational questions; build strong relationships to understand building-specific needs and communicate service schedules, changes, and performance updates; ensure high customer satisfaction through proactive communication and consistent follow-up.
- Quality Assurance & Operational Coordination – Conduct routine building walkthroughs and evaluate cleaning quality using QA tools and inspection reports; adjust service levels and cleaning schedules as needed based on inspection trends, customer needs, or facility changes; coordinate special services such as deep cleans, floor care, and window cleaning; partner closely with zone custodial teams, Maintenance, and Project teams to align contractor services with operational activities and building requirements.

Bachelor's degree. - Experience:
Two years of related experience. Additional experience may be in lieu of degree. - Licensure/
Certifications:
None
- Knowledge:
Working knowledge of custodial service standards and industry best practices, including familiarity with APPA levels of service. - Experience:
Experience encompassing contract management, vendor oversight, facilities operations, custodial services, and/or quality assurance. Experience in institutional facilities management or multi-building environments. Experience managing service contracts and budgets. - Licensure/
Certifications:
Valid Driver's License with a positive points balance and at least 2 years of driving experience.
