Position Details
Hiring amount: $16.50 an hour. This is a non-exempt, seasonal (variable/limited-hour) position, and is not eligible for city benefits.
Role OverviewThe Seasonal Trail Maintenance Worker assigned to the Parks Division provides customer service and city beautification through efficient maintenance of city park trails and grounds. The worker supports many functional areas within the Park system, including mowing and turf maintenance, facility maintenance, planting and watering trees, flower beds, pots, custodial duties, and assistance with maintenance, installation and construction.
This position will primarily perform work in trail maintenance, natural area and forest management; the work may require the ability to work in wooded and/or undeveloped parks, including stream valleys, hilly terrain, and similar environments.
Responsibilities- Responsible for facilities, grounds and city infrastructure maintenance functions.
- Assists with construction and maintenance projects.
- Performs simple repair and completes maintenance assignments.
- May be exposed to or required to use chemicals in general maintenance responsibilities.
- Assists senior workers in semi‑skilled work and the use of hand tools and maintenance equipment.
- Operates hand tools and power equipment associated with custodial, construction and maintenance operations.
- May operate vehicles as required.
- Willingness and flexibility to work as a member of one or several teams.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school or vocational school diploma or GED. If no diploma or GED is obtained, a minimum of 2 years of direct work experience in the field is required.
- Some experience as a laborer in the maintenance, repair and/or construction activities to which assigned.
- Some experience in the operation of mechanical and automotive equipment.

- May require the ability to obtain Pesticide Applicator certification.
- May require the ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months of hire.
Heavy work involves exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for medium work.
This position may require work on weekends, nights, holidays and/or emergency on‑call. The majority of time spent in this position involves outside work which may involve extreme temperatures, extreme brightness, chemicals/hazardous waste, blood‑borne pathogens, infectious bacteria, fuels and allergens. The noise level is usually moderate. The position also requires the regular use of or subject to vibration, ladder/step stool, traffic/roadways, driving equipment and/or moving mechanical parts.
This is a safety‑sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing for pre‑employment, reasonable suspicion, post‑accident and random testing.
