Sports Turf Technician

The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics is now accepting applications for the position of Sports Turf Technician to assist with maintenance of outdoor athletic facilities.

Primary responsibilities include maintaining the grounds and assisting all athletics fields. Additional responsibilities include exemplary customer service to internal and external constituencies; performing repair, maintenance and upkeep duties on grounds at various facilities utilized by the Athletics Department, student‑athletes, sports fans and general public; performing mechanical repairs; assisting in the preparation, maintenance, and clean‑up of outdoor athletic facilities for games, special events, and day‑to‑day operations;

assisting in set‑up and teardown for sports related and various events; ensuring proper care, use and maintenance of equipment, tools and supplies; and ensuring tasks are performed in a safe manner.

Experience in general grounds keeping and landscaping preferred. Ability to be extremely flexible in terms of work schedule (evenings, weekends, and overtime) required. Knowledge of EPA guidelines for the application and storage of fertilizers and pest control chemicals preferred. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to comply with EPA and University guidelines for the application of fertilizers and pest control chemicals. Ability to assist in the care, usage and maintenance of small tractor engines, power equipment and tools. Ability to assist daily in preparation, clean‑up, and on‑site needs associated with the use of athletic facilities. Ability to ensure the safe use of grounds maintenance equipment.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

Some prior relevant work experience.

Licensure:
Valid driver's license.

The selected candidate will pass a background check. This position will not sponsor applications for immigration now or in the future. This is a full‑time position with UVa benefits. The salary range for this position is $18.00–$20.00 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Employee will be required to lift various weights, climb ladders and stairs, and use both hands for repetitive motion while performing duties.
