Parks Maintenance Crew Leader
Under general supervision, leads crew in a variety of cleaning, maintenance and/or landscaping duties within the County parks buildings, grounds, parks facilities, campsites, ballparks, and recreation sites.

Leads crew work activities; performs a variety of tasks including mowing grass; weeding plant beds; pruning trees; trimming and edging landscaping; cleaning facilities, grounds, pavilions, campsites, ballparks, and other recreation facilities; performs maintenance and construction of recreation facilities and irrigation systems, including electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and painting.
Provides oversight and guidance to Parks maintenance and custodial personnel in the performance of assigned work, workplace safety, and other parks maintenance activities. Performs preventive maintenance and other general maintenance activities; operates a variety of maintenance related tools, and landscape maintenance and/or heavy equipment.
Operates a variety of heavy equipment such as, but not limited to, mowers, weed eaters, tree trimmers, edgers, etc… Responsible for loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and efficient manner; performs vehicle and equipment checks; performs preventive maintenance; may transfer equipment to and from work sites; may provide assistance in snow removal and ice control.
Work around all types of moving equipment.
Mows grass; weeds plant beds; prunes trees; trims and edges landscaping; cleans restrooms, facilities, grounds, pavilions, campsites, ballparks, and other recreation facilities; performs maintenance and construction of recreation facilities and irrigation systems.
Responsible for workplace safety; performs preventive maintenance and other general maintenance activities; operates a variety of maintenance related tools, and landscape maintenance and/or heavy equipment. Perform a variety of support and clean-up activities, including restrooms, as well as other general laborer duties involving cleaning, sweeping throughout the park and handling of all types of Parks and Recreation materials.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of equipment manuals, work orders and other documentation relating to the maintenance of County parks and recreational facilities. Knowledge of Hamilton County policies and procedures. Knowledge of relevant Federal, State and County codes and regulations relating to building maintenance and workplace safety. Knowledge of County geography, parks and recreational facilities and work sites. Skill in reading, interpreting, understanding, and applying applicable Federal and State rules and regulations, Hamilton County Policies and Procedures.
Skill in working with a variety of hand and power tools and landscaping and construction equipment; equipment manuals, engineering specifications and drawings. Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with the public, department staff, other County departments and contractors. Skill in the performance of landscaping and plant care.
The equivalent of a high school diploma and a valid driver's license. A minimum of three (3) years of direct work experience in a recreation department and/or in landscaping, construction work, or a related field is required.
This position has been identified as "safety sensitive" under the definition of 49 CFR Part 40-Department of Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Policy. This position will be subject to drug and alcohol testing for the following:
1) post offer pre-employment
2) when there is reasonable cause
3) after an on-the-job accident or contributing to an accident
4) on a random basis
5) prior to return to duty after suspension and/or
6) as follow-up. This is additional and also subject to the Rules and Regulations of The Employee Handbook.
Regular visits to County Facilities and work sites are required.
Prior to operating a County-owned vehicle, all employees are required to complete the HC Defensive Driving course and/or an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provided at the department level.
Work requires moderate physical effort involving considerable walking and standing with intermittent sitting and driving. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk, and hear. The employee is required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Employee must frequently be able to lift and carry/move up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally lift and carry/move up to 100 pounds.
