Maintenance Assistant
Chambliss Center for Children | Chattanooga, TN | Full-Time or Part-Time As a 24/7/365 nonprofit serving children, youth, and families, Chambliss Center for Children depends on safe, well-maintained buildings to provide quality care. Our Maintenance Assistant helps keep our facilities clean, safe, and running smoothly across our agency locations in the Chattanooga area. If you're handy, dependable, and want to build your skills in building maintenance, we'd love to hear from you.
Monday–Friday daytime hours
No on-call rotation; after-hours needs are rare (only occasional evenings or weekends for emergencies or urgent repairs)
Pay: $17–$20 per hour, based on skills and experience

- Complete maintenance work orders and preventive maintenance tasks
- Help with general building repairs, including:
- Plumbing
- Basic electrical work
- Carpentry
- Painting
- HVAC support
- Inspect facilities and report maintenance or safety concerns
- Install, move, and repair furniture, fixtures, and equipment
- Respond to urgent maintenance needs as they come up
- Help keep agency facilities clean, safe, and operating smoothly
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Ability to safely use hand and power tools
- Ability to pass a fingerprint-based background check (required for working around children)
- At least 1 year of general building maintenance, construction, or handyman experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or HVAC
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders throughout the day
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Travel between multiple agency locations throughout the Chattanooga area
