Location: Chehalis, WA Closes: Saturday, July 25, 2026 Salary: $78,504 –$88,788 Yearly. The indicated salary does not include a 5% on-site 24/7 facility premium.
The Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) is looking for a Maintenance Specialist 4 to supervise the upkeep and improvement of a Juvenile Rehabilitation residential institution. This position directs maintenance, repair, alteration and construction of buildings, equipment, grounds, and operation of heating plant and laundry on a campus of approximately 300,000 square feet of buildings on 50 developed acres.
The Opportunity:
We need your trades experience at Green Hill School to supervise journey-level qualified, general building trades, and custodial staff, and supervise and direct maintenance and operations that include electrical distribution, steam generation, custodial services, and mechanical and equipment maintenance repair. You will coordinate personnel, equipment, and materials for relevant preventative and corrective maintenance, programmatic and project efforts, and services. Additionally, this position is responsible for supporting the coordination of external contractors performing both larger and smaller projects on the Green Hill campus.
Some of what you'll do:
- Supervise and direct assigned maintenance and operations personnel to fulfill facility maintenance at Green Hill School.
- Inspect buildings, campus, grounds and equipment.
- Determine need for construction, maintenance, or repairs.
- Prioritize and assigns work.
- Supervises staff, perform annual staff performance planning and evaluations, and determines annual training that should occur within the allowed budget.
- Holds primary responsibility for safety training adherence to policies, equipment and related needs.
- Requisition materials, supplies and equipment. Solicit cost estimates and manages the materials controlled by the GHS budget.
- Ensure timely and correct collection of GHS vehicle mileage sheets and ensure GHS vehicle fleet is maintained and safe including electric on campus carts.
Required qualifications:
Three years of full-time experience as a journey trades worker, or equivalent, including one year, full-time experience as a lead or supervisor.
In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:
Four years of supervisory experience in operations support, maintenance or physical plan in large industrial, commercial or public establishments which may include high-pressure heating or power plant, and construction supervision.
Previously demonstrated ability to:
- Exercise sound judgment when responding to clients in crisis by building effective helping relationships and applying program-approved crisis intervention techniques and practices.
- Use hand and power tools; interpret blueprints and sketches; estimate materials, labor, and project costs; maintain accurate time and material records; and plan, assign, and supervise the work of others.
Previously demonstrated knowledge of building construction, maintenance, and repair; grounds maintenance; plumbing and electrical systems; building fixtures and equipment; materials and supplies used in building maintenance and construction; preparation of plans and specifications for construction and building alterations; methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in building maintenance and construction work; occupational hazards and applicable safety practices associated with the building trades;
and supervisory principles and practices.
