8 hours per day; 10:00 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. (start/end times and location may be adjusted based on department need);
Sunday (10p start) – Friday (6:30a end); 260 days (year‑round)

$21.37–$26.17 per hour depending on comparable experience;
Pay is annualized over 12 months (if hired after the start of the school year, spread over the remaining months of the fiscal year).

Degrees eligible for a salary enhancement: AA +$0.50, BA +$1.00, MA +$1.50, PhD +$2.00 per hour (only the highest degree is applied).

Performs general housekeeping and cleaning duties in assigned areas. Takes direction from supervisor, principal, and head/lead custodian. Interacts with students, staff, and the public during and after school hours. Monitors the building for health and safety issues and reports concerns to supervisor, principal, or head/lead custodian. Maintains building security while on shift. Responds to maintenance and repair concerns as requested.

• Routine cleaning, maintenance, and refinishing of hard floor surfaces (vinyl tile, VAT/VCT, Terrazzo, aggregate, synthetic or maple floors). Routine vacuuming, spot cleaning, and periodic extraction, shampooing, and treatment of carpet.
• Routine cleaning and sanitation of restrooms, shower rooms, kitchens, cafeterias, classroom sinks, staff lounges, and concession areas, including counters, partitions, dispensers, cupboards, sinks, lamps, faucets, drinking fountains, mirrors, walls, floors, ceilings, writing boards, and light fixtures. Refill or repair tissue, towel, and soap dispensers; clean and sanitize drinking fountains and other dispensers.
• Routine cleaning, dusting, and maintenance of assigned classrooms, offices, health rooms, corridors, mechanical rooms, access areas, and other areas of assignment, including lights, fixtures, white boards, furnishings, waste containers, walls, floors, ceilings, windows, and doors.
• Setup and removal of furniture for special events; monitor and replenish supplies needed during special events; report damage and other concerns.
• Clean and maintain classroom and office furniture. Repair desk and chair tops, seats, backrests, and floor glides. Move and relocate desks, chairs, risers, and other furniture as assigned; perform minor repairs as needed.
• Use a wide variety of hand and power tools such as brooms, mops, squeegees, brushes, and other equipment. Efficiently operate and maintain mechanized equipment such as carpet extractors, shampoo equipment, buffers, vacuums, and pressure washers.
• Provide site security through visual and physical inspection of doors, windows, and hatches; report all defective equipment immediately.
• Assist in periodic replacement of heating and ventilation filters and visual inspection of belts; report defective equipment immediately.
• Safely and effectively apply floor strippers, disinfectants, finishes, cleaning chemicals, and treatments; read and follow manufacturer’s directions for application and use of chemicals and other products.
• Inspect playgrounds, parking lots; report safety concerns and service refuse containers outside the building.
• Maintain exterior walkways, keeping them clear of snow, ice, and debris.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 900 hours of recent custodial experience or similar acceptable experience and qualifications, preferably within the past five years.
• Valid Washington State driver’s license.
• Physically able to perform required work on a daily basis.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at intermittent times.
• Knowledge and ability to use tools of the trade.
• Ability to operate and maintain power equipment of the trade.
• Ability to follow written and oral directions.
• Basic computer (email, Internet) skills preferred.
