Salary: $21.37 to $22.97 per hour. Degrees eligible for a salary enhancement as follows: AA $0.50/hr, BA $1.00/hr, MA $1.50/hr, PhD $2.00/hr substitute hours are paid the month following completion of work.

Upon reaching 630 hours worked, substitutes become eligible for medical, dental, vision, and basic life and AD&D insurance through SEBB.
The substitute custodian will fill vacant positions as needed, perform general housekeeping and cleaning duties in assigned areas, take direction from supervisor, principal, and head/lead custodian, interact with students, staff, and the public during and after the school day, monitor the building for health and safety issues, maintain security of the building while on shift, and report maintenance and repair concerns.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Provide routine cleaning, maintenance and refinishing of hard floor surfaces such as vinyl tile, VAT/VCT, Terrazzo, aggregate, synthetic or maple floors.
- Provide routine vacuuming, spot cleaning, maintenance, and repair of carpet and walk‑off mats, including periodic extraction, shampooing and treatment of carpet as assigned.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, shower rooms, kitchens, cafeterias, classroom sinks, staff lounges and concession areas; fill, replace or repair tissue, towel and soap dispensers; clean and sanitize drinking fountains and dispensers as assigned.
- Clean and maintain assigned classrooms, offices, health rooms, corridors, mechanical rooms, access areas and other areas; this includes lights, fixtures, white boards, furnishings, waste containers, walls, floors, ceilings, windows and doors.
- Set up and remove furniture for special events; monitor and replenish supplies and report damage.
- Clean and maintain classroom and office furniture; repair desks and chairs, move and relocate furniture as assigned, perform minor repairs as needed.
- Use a variety of hand and power tools such as brooms, mops, squeegees, brushes and other custodial equipment; operate and maintain mechanized equipment such as carpet extractors, shampoo equipment, buffers, vacuums and pressure washers.
- Provide site security through visual and physical inspection of doors, windows and hatches; report defective equipment to head/lead custodian immediately.
- Assist in periodic replacement of heating and ventilation filters, and visual inspection of belts; report defective equipment to head/lead custodian.
- Safely apply floor strippers, disinfectants, finishes, cleaning chemicals and treatments; read and follow manufacturer’s directions.
- Inspect playgrounds, parking lots, report safety concerns, and service refuse containers outside the building.
- Maintain exterior walkways, keeping them clear of snow, ice and debris.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license.
- Physically able to perform required work; able to lift up to 50 pounds at intermittent times.
- Knowledge and ability to use tools of the trade, operate and maintain power equipment.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions.
- Basic computer (e‑mail, Internet) skills preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to relate well with students, staff and the public.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting.
Testing may be used to determine knowledge of trade.
