Cleaning Services, Maintenance Worker

In accordance with City policy, this position is deemed safety-sensitive. Applicants are subject to pre‑employment drug/alcohol testing and may also be subject to random testing. A valid medical marijuana certification is accepted unless the position requires a commercial driver’s license (CDL) or a sworn law‑enforcement officer/deputy.
Position InformationFull‑time position with a 40‑hour week. NIGHT SHIFT – hours may vary but will include weekends and occasional holidays.
Location:
Chesapeake, VA (city municipal or recreational facility). Occasional driving required (O). Pay Grade: GE01. Salary: $16.51–$24.57 per hour, starting salary depends on qualifications and experience.
Parks, Recreation and Tourism (PRT) seeks a dependable individual with custodial experience and a strong commitment to customer service and quality work. The role maintains City buildings, facilities and recreational areas through routine and specialized custodial services.
Responsibilities- Provide excellent internal and external customer service in support of the City’s Customer Service Initiative.
- Clean offices, restrooms, kitchens, cabins, outdoor facilities and other assigned areas.
- Perform floor care, including vacuuming, mopping, stripping and waxing.
- Restock supplies, replace light bulbs, and mix and use cleaning chemicals appropriately.
- Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables; maintain outdoor areas and parking lots.
- Operate commercial custodial equipment such as floor buffers, scrubbers, and vacuums.
- Assist with special cleaning projects, deep cleaning and sanitizing as needed.
- Set up facilities for special events and work flexible schedules as required.
- Report safety hazards and equipment issues promptly.
- Work during City emergencies when necessary.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications- Instruction that is sufficient for satisfactory job performance.
- Valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.
- None required experience; relevant experience is not mandatory.
- Previous experience in housekeeping and/or custodial services.
- Knowledge of APPA and custodial standard operations and principle guidelines.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
