The St. James is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our team at The St. James Performance Club in Bethesda, Maryland.

Our Bethesda Performance Club features intentionally designed spaces, state of the art equipment, and performance driven programming within a premium hospitality fitness environment. We are seeking a dependable, detail oriented, and service minded Maintenance Technician who takes pride in delivering excellence and maintaining high standards across the facility.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the physical condition, safety, functionality, and overall appearance of the property. This role executes daily maintenance operations including interior and exterior upkeep, timely completion of work orders, preventative maintenance programs, and inventory control.

This position requires Tuesday - Saturday availability, with evenings and weekends required based on operational needs. On call availability is required as scheduled.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Diagnose and perform routine and minor maintenance and repairs in a timely and professional manner

• Complete service requests daily and accurately document all work performed, including parts used

• Follow up on incomplete work orders to ensure timely resolution

• Maintain positive and professional relationships with members, guests, vendors, contractors, and team members

• Inspect facility spaces daily using checklists and communicate repair needs to management

• Ensure all spaces are maintained to company standards and prepared for daily operations

• Perform daily building and common area upkeep

• Execute assigned preventative maintenance programs and maintain accurate records

• Order parts and supplies while maintaining organized and cost effective inventory

• Maintain engineering and maintenance areas to company standards

• Support facility events and special projects as assigned

Janitorial and maintenance functions include:

• Minor repairs to HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, and electrical systems

• Monitoring building security and safety, including locking procedures and hazard prevention

• Moving furniture and equipment as needed

• Minor landscaping and exterior upkeep

• Snow removal and application of snow melting materials during winter months

• Responding to emergency maintenance needs as required

All work must be performed in compliance with company safety standards, OSHA regulations, and applicable health codes.

Organizational Relationships

Reports directly to General Manager. Works closely with the On Site Manager, maintenance team members, contractors, vendors, and department leaders to support operational excellence.

Qualifications

• General maintenance experience required

• Working knowledge of light carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems

• Strong understanding of safety procedures and safe work practices

• Dependable, organized, and able to meet deadlines

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Ability to flex schedule to accommodate evenings and weekends

• Professional communication skills

Other Requirements

Schedule

Tuesday - Saturday required with evening and weekend availability based on operational needs. On call availability as scheduled.

Overtime

As needed for emergencies or special projects.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

• Ability to kneel, crouch, climb, crawl, and reach as needed

• Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor temperatures

• Ability to safely operate required tools and equipment

Tools

Must provide own basic hand tools or be willing to obtain them. Must be knowledgeable and skilled in the safe use of:

Hand Tools

Various wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, saws, snips, grips, and similar tools

Power Tools

Drills, grinders, sanders, saws, and related equipment

Material Handling Equipment

Dollies, hand trucks, ladders, jacks, hoists, and similar equipment

Transportation

Reliable transportation required.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. Trade school experience preferred. Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
