Position OverviewThe Cost Accounting Manager will lead all plant‑level cost accounting functions for a growing manufacturing operation in Chicago Heights. This role is responsible for product costing, inventory valuation, variance analysis, budgeting support, and development of financial insights that drive operational performance. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience in a manufacturing environment, a strong understanding of standard cost systems, and the ability to partner closely with operations, supply chain, and leadership teams.
This position requires excellent analytical skills, a strong process mindset, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, production‑focused environment.
- Maintain and update standard costs, bills of materials (BOMs), routings, and overhead rates
- Perform manufacturing variance analysis, including material usage, labor efficiency, and overhead variances
- Lead inventory accounting activities, including cycle counts, physical inventory, and reconciliation of discrepancies
- Support budget development and forecasting through detailed cost modeling
- Provide plant‑level financial reporting, including cost trend analysis and profitability reporting
- Partner with operations to identify cost‑saving opportunities and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure accuracy and compliance of cost accounting policies under GAAP
- Analyze production costs, job profitability, and actual vs. standard performance
- Prepare monthly journal entries, cost accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Support internal and external audits with accurate documentation and cost accounting support
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (operations, engineering, supply chain) to improve costing accuracy and process efficiency
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, manufacturing processes, and operational metrics
- Experience with inventory accounting, standard costing, and variance analysis
- Experience with ERP/manufacturing systems preferred
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret production and financial data
- Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with plant leadership
- Detail‑oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities
