Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) is seeking an organized, professional, and results oriented individual to serve as Senior Staff Assistant to the Executive Deputy Director of the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) Business Services Division. This position will perform a variety of sensitive and confidential staff functions. Responsibilities include assisting in the coordination and implementation of various operational programs, policies and procedures and performing administrative tasks pertaining to operational, budget, and staffing issues and reports.

This position provides a great opportunity for someone who has a strong background in providing administrative support for large programs and is interested in supporting statewide employment services operations and systems. The ideal candidate for this position will be detail-oriented and self-motivated with excellent problem-solving and organizational skills and have professional experience assisting upper management coordinate operation of a large program and/or several mid-sized programs.

Essential Functions
  • Under administrative direction, functions as Senior Staff Assistant to the Executive Deputy Director of the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) Business Services Division
  • Provides administrative support
  • Assists in the planning, development and execution of various operational programs, policies and procedures
  • Responds to sensitive inquiries and provides information relative to established policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Serves as a liaison between the Executive Deputy Director and internal and external groups, including but not limited to agency staff and management personnel, state and federal agencies and other interested parties
  • Provides office operation support
  • Coordinates and monitors personnel administration activities for assigned staff
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration
  • Requires two (2) years of professional experience in a public or private organization
Conditions of Employment
  • Requires an Illinois State Police background check and self-disclosure of any criminal history
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate
