The Packaging Manager – Value Improvement & Sustainability plays a critical leadership role in advancing Ferrero’s packaging strategy across North America. This position leads value optimization and sustainability initiatives across Ferrero’s iconic portfolio, including Nutella, Ferrero Rocher, Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, and Keebler Cookies.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Packaging, North America, the role is responsible for scoping, evaluating, and delivering packaging programs that drive cost efficiency, operational excellence, and environmental impact reduction. The Packaging Manager is a key contributor to Ferrero’s global sustainability journey, ensuring packaging is Designed for Recycling, supporting data-driven decision-making, guiding legislative readiness, and enabling progress toward global sustainability commitments.
MainResponsibilities
- Lead a small, high-impact team and influence packaging engineers across North America to drive Value Chain Optimization and Packaging Sustainability initiatives.
- Identify and deliver packaging cost, efficiency, and sustainability improvements through material, design, and process optimization in collaboration with sites, suppliers, and cross-functional partners.
- Lead North American packaging sustainability initiatives in alignment with global strategy, partnering closely with Central Sustainability and supporting subsidiaries and newly acquired businesses on trends, legislation, and execution.
- Identify, pilot, and scale innovative packaging technologies and solutions by monitoring industry trends, legislation, and competitive practices, while developing tools that enable data-driven decision-making.
- Co-lead sustainability reporting (including EPR, retailer, and CSR requirements) and manage packaging sustainability data, KPIs, and performance assessments.
- Collaborate globally with R&D, Operations, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Sustainability teams to ensure consistent execution and best-practice sharing.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field. 8+ years of experience in packaging development within the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of packaging materials, structural design, and manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated experience leading sustainability-focused packaging initiatives, including data collection and reporting.
Skills & Capabilities
- Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives through influence rather than direct authority.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Collaborative, adaptable, and curious mindset; comfortable operating in a global, matrixed, and fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

The base salary range for this position is $113,. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This range represents the anticipated salary for this position at this time.
