Position Summary:

Sandridge School District 172 is seeking an innovative and student-centered Middle School Science Teacher to educate and inspire students in grades 6 through 8. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and be committed to fostering a hands-on, inquiry-based learning environment that promotes scientific thinking and real-world application. We are especially interested in candidates who are passionate about closing opportunity gaps for students from historically marginalized communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver effective science instruction aligned with NGSS for grades 7 8.
  • Design engaging, inquiry-based lessons and labs that incorporate hands-on investigations, data analysis, and technology integration.
  • Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate accommodations to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including students with IEPs, 504s, and English Language Learners.
  • Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes respect, safety, and a love for learning.
  • Regularly assess student progress using formative and summative assessments; use data to guide instructional decisions.
  • Integrate cross-curricular connections, particularly in math and literacy, to deepen students' understanding of science concepts.
  • Collaborate with team members, including special education and support staff, to support student achievement.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student performance, attendance, and communication.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to keep them informed of student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in school-wide events, professional development, committees, and ongoing school improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Secondary Science Education, or a related science field from an accredited institution.
  • Certification: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate Science endorsement for grades 5 8 or 6 12.
  • Experience: Previous teaching experience in a middle school setting preferred.
  • Skills and Dispositions:
    • Strong content knowledge in life, earth, and physical sciences.
    • Familiarity with NGSS and inquiry-based science instruction.
    • Commitment to equity, cultural responsiveness, and inclusive classroom practices.
    • Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
Working Conditions:
  • Full-time, 10-month position.
  • Classroom and lab environment.
  • May require occasional evening hours for parent-teacher conferences or school events.
