Part-Time Hourly Machining/CNC (Computer Numerical Controls) Laboratory Assistant Job Summary
Prairie State College seeks an experienced part‑time hourly laboratory assistant to provide customized training to a variety of clients. Candidates should be able to engage a diverse student population in millwright, maintenance, and welding studies. Primary duties include running and monitoring the millwright, machine tool, and welding lab, as well as assisting students in machine usage.
The role requires independent work, good judgment, and a flexible schedule for teaching assignments.

Reports directly to the Manager, Workforce and Community Partnerships – Workforce Trades. Supports the Executive Director, Workforce Development and Community Education, and the team with their mission.
Key Responsibilities- Understand instructional activities supporting curriculum.
- Use assessment tools to ensure learning.
- Communicate effectively with students to help them achieve educational goals.
- Open and close the welding lab safely.
- Conduct classes with little or no direct supervision.
- Provide student updates when requested.
- Experience with machining / Computer Numerical Controls (CNC) operations.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Instructional/Training experience.
- Must be proficient in machining; a competency test will be administered during the interview.
- Associate degree in machining technology or an associated field.
- Experience teaching, especially at the community college level.
- Experience working with a culturally and intellectually diverse group.
Salary: $20 per hour.
Anticipated work hours:
Part‑time, hourly. Flexible schedule based on teaching assignments.
