Position Summary

We are seeking experienced adjunct faculty to teach general education Humanities and Philosophy courses starting spring 2027. Successful candidates will have a desire to engage a diverse student population in the study of world religions, world mythology, and foundational texts in the history of philosophy.

Anticipated courses open for spring semester with a start date of January 11, 2027 include:

HUMAN 101 Comparative Religions (MW 8 am, 11 am, TTH 9:30 am, 12:30 pm)

HUMAN 201 Humanities Themes:
Myth, Reason, God ( TTH 8 am, 11 am)

PHILO 101 Introduction to Philosophy ( TTH 9:30 am, 11 am)

PHILO 202 Ethics ( TTH 9:30 am, 5 pm)

Minimum Qualifications
  • 1. Master’s Degree in Humanities, Philosophy, or Literature or a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in a Humanities discipline.
  • 2. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • 3. Commitment to the mission of community colleges.
  • 4. Able to teach courses on the Prairie State College Campus.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • 1. Experience teaching a variety of philosophy and humanities courses.
  • 2. Teaching experience at the community college level.
  • 3. Credentialed to teach in the online format.
  • 4. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
  • 5. Graduate work beyond the Master’s.
