Financial Controller

Location: Chicago, IL (on-site 5 days/week)

Salary: $100k - $150k (depending on experience)

We are seeking a Financial Controller for a growing, operations-driven construction company based in Chicago supporting complex commercial and industrial. The organization operates in a fast-paced environment that values accountability, collaboration, and hands-on leadership. • Payroll & Labor Compliance
• Oversee payroll processing across multiple job sites, wage classifications, and labor jurisdictions.
• Manage union reporting, fringe benefit contributions, labor compliance documentation, and certified payroll reporting.
• Ensure compliance with prevailing wage requirements and applicable labor regulations.
• Lead the month-end close process and prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Maintain integrity of the general ledger and supporting financial schedules.
• Assist leadership with financial reporting, analysis, and operational insights.

• Job Costing & Project Accounting
• Oversee accounts payable, project invoicing, and cost tracking across multiple active projects.
• Implement and maintain best practices related to job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) accounting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Monitor project profitability and support operational teams with financial reporting.

• Financial Analysis & Planning
• Perform variance analysis, trend analysis, margin analysis, and other financial modeling to support decision-making.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning initiatives.
• Develop reporting tools and KPI dashboards to improve visibility into business performance.

• Cash Flow & Operational Support
• Manage company cash flow, liquidity planning, and forecasting.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
• Support ownership and senior leadership with day-to-day operational, reporting, insurance, benefits, and administrative needs.

• Compliance & Controls
• Ensure compliance with tax filings, government reporting requirements, audits, and financial controls.
• Assist in establishing and improving accounting processes, systems, and internal controls in a growing environment.

• CPA preferred.
• 5+ years of hands-on accounting or finance experience, preferably within construction, project-based, or field services environments.
• Strong experience with WIP accounting, job costing, and percentage-of-completion accounting required.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Quick Books; experience with ERP systems such as Sage, Net Suite, or similar platforms is a plus.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working within a high-growth or private equity-backed environment preferred.
• Comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial setting with evolving processes and responsibilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
• Ability to work onsite in Chicago Heights, IL five days per week.
