We are looking for an Assembler to join our team in Chicago Heights, Illinois.
Purpose of PositionThe Assembler is responsible for grinding, welding, fitting, and assembling steel, iron, and manganese rail points for track work related products to the specifications provided by engineering. The Assembler is part of a team responsible for assembling all steel, iron, manganese components and switch points for track work related products to the specifications provided by our customers and engineering.
Responsibilities- Safely operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks.
- Build specialty track assemblies for the railroads.
- Assemble various turnout components such as switch points, frogs, plates, etc.
- Operate hand tools and power tools (e.g., sledgehammers, pry bars, special track installation tools).
- Work in a team environment with limited supervision.
- Adhere to Nortrak s Safety, Quality and Environmental Procedures, Practices and Policies.
- Routine cleanup of the work area.
- Work outside in all weather conditions year‑round.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School graduate or GED preferred but not required.
- Forklift and Crane certification preferred (will be certified in house if needed).
- Ability to read work orders, ITPs, blueprints, rulers and tape measures.
- Basic mathematical calculation experience (adding and subtracting whole numbers, fractions and decimals).
- Experience in Railroad Industry is a plus but not required.
- Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and pushing, pulling, or lifting objects for the duration of the scheduled shift.
- Use hands and arms to operate tools, handle materials, and reach for the duration of the scheduled shift.
- Regularly lift and carry 30–35 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Hearing abilities necessary to perform job tasks safely and effectively.
