Assembler – Chicago Heights, IllinoisThe Assembler is responsible for grinding, welding, fitting, and assembling all steel, iron, and manganese rail points for track work related products to the specifications provided by engineering and our customers.
Task and Responsibilities- Safely operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks.
- Build specialty track assemblies for railroads.
- Assemble various turnout components such as switch points, frogs, plates, etc.
- Operate hand tools and power tools (sledgehammers, pry bars, special track installation tools).
- Work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment.
- Adhere to Nortrak’s Safety, Quality and Environmental Procedures, Practices and Policies.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions year‑round.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School graduate or GED preferred but not required.
- Forklift and crane certification preferred (will be certified in house if needed).
- Ability to read work orders, ITPs, blueprints, rulers and tape measures.
- Basic mathematical calculation skills (adding, subtracting whole numbers, fractions, decimals).
- Experience in the railroad industry is a plus.
- Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, pushing, pulling, or lifting objects for the duration of the shift.
- Use hands and arms to operate tools, handle materials, and reach for the duration of the shift.
- Regularly lift and carry 30–35 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Require vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, focus.
- Require hearing to perform job tasks safely and effectively.

- Hourly rate: $21.70/hr – $22.70/hr
