Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
We are seeking an experienced Mobile Diesel Technician Level II to perform DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light and follow‑up repairs, diagnostics, and advanced repairs under supervision. The candidate will learn and apply advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques while meeting company performance metrics.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including electrical, braking, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment including electrical, braking, cooling, starters, alternators, air conditioning, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and determine accuracy and relevance of information using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and complete pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve problems.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work-related activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work and upload pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using the company iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity and meet or exceed standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and the support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field (or equivalent combination).
- Possession of the hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months of hire.
- Successful completion of a DOT-regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical or a valid DOT medical card.
- Candidate must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid Class C driver’s license.
- Valid driver’s license required with ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Completion of a DOT medical card with at least 4 months remaining in validity (or a DOT physical if less).
